glock 43x how many magazines

Glock 43x How Many Magazines - Built with simple shotgun reliability, the Glock 43X and Glock 48 offer shooters slim and effective concealed carry options in 9mm.

I have carried a concealed Glock 19 for about 18 years regularly. The first years I was still working. After that, we had the state version of the Law Enforcement Officer Safety Act, and I got a license to carry from the state - belt and suspension style.

I first started carrying concealed handguns in the 1970s - remember Jimmy Carter, double digit inflation and double digit unemployment? Yes, I started taking that long, and even before an actor was cast in the film.

With that in mind, I was surprised to learn that the Glock 19, a service contract by design, is too much carry for many people. And, when I thought about it, it made sense. If you're in a classic unregulated environment - not with illegal behavior or even a job requirement you can't do it - but if you're working with people who have such an irrational fear of invalids, yes the very important "less" when it comes to hiding.

In racing smaller guns, people used flyweight calibers in very small guns and hoped for the best. Unfortunately, how well the guns were fired was lost. I have fired small .380 pistols, as well as some unpleasant small 9mm guns: The results were not great.

At the same time, various states were allowed to ban "box springs"—in other words, magazines that contained "many" bullets. A lethal weapon, the lack of reasoning, may be less lethal within these limits.

At the end of the late Clinton Gun Ban in 1994, the entire country was bound by such a magazine ban. The industry has turned to service and service-sized double-stack handguns. The Glock 19 became one example of a gun that suddenly required an unenhanced Clinton magazine. Oh, what we would give for a ready supply of 10-shot concealed handguns. There are a few with less than 10 rounds, but almost no support equipment (extra magazines, holsters, magazine pouches).

Now, our wait is over, and it seems the time has come for us to introduce today's legislative buffoonery. Glock has released larger versions of their Slimline 9mm pistol. Their first attempt to be available in the United States was the Glock 43. As a six-shot 9mm, it was really sub-compact. With a short barrel/slide paired with a short frame, it can be slipped into a belly band under scrubs, worn around the ankle or tucked into a pocket bag.

However, it is difficult to hang on a Glock 43 when it is fired. It's not painful, but it's difficult trying to pass the Wizard Drill - a benchmark to see if you're proficient with the gun you're carrying, while you're carrying it. Some get there, but others don't.

Meanwhile, some people on the internet are saying that there hasn't been much change from the gun companies. Well, Glock only made the Glock 43 either; they had to make other changes to make everything work. As they did so, realizing that most of the concealment work was in the magazine/frame length and not the barrel/slide due to internal bearing, they launched two models for 2019.

The upgraded product is the Glock 43X. Basically a Glock 43 above in a taller frame, the magazine is different. With a capacity of 10 rounds of 9×19mm ammunition, it is only as long as a Glock 43 when loaded with a Vickers Tactical / Tango Down +2 magazine. To fit 10 rounds instead of eight, the new magazines are thicker and unfit.

The short barrel and slide come out of the holster quickly, but there is a frame that gives you, the user, more to hang on to.

Not content to make the Glock 43X a "magazine stopper," they used that Glock 43X frame and added a barrel/slide that mirrored the length of the G19 (albeit thinner). The result: the Glock 48. Also a 10-shot gun, the slightly longer barrel/slide gives you more of that sight radius.

For those with the appendage, the longer barrel/slide gives the body something to push against to push the rear of the gun back into the body. This really enhances the visibility.

The Gen5 G19 is wider than the G48 (right). Note the opening in the Glock 48 forward slide of the dust cover; it is there to give access to the front sight retention hill.

The slide for the Glock 43X is the same subcompact length as the G43 at just over 6 inches (with a 3.41-inch barrel). The Glock 48 is called "compact", with a length of 6.85 inches (4.17-inch barrel), making it compliant with current Canadian violations.

What do guns have in common? Both ships with a pair of 10-shot magazines. Options for sights include standard "ball-in-the-bucket" plastic sights if you want to switch to your own sights, Glock night sights (GNS) or Glock-branded Ameriglo Bold sights. The frames are nicely styled, and the slides are silver with a silver nPVD finish. There are front cockpit sights, which are useful for room inspections - if you keep your digits away from the mouth.

Also, the magazine is reversed, a "beavertail" is built into the rear of the frame to reduce the chances of the slide biting, and the guns both feature Glock Marksman barrels.

Handgun Showdown: Glock 43x Mos Vs. Glock 19

I found that the Glock 48 weighed in at 17.6 ounces on my scale, with an empty mag in place. The Glock 43X is 16.8 ounces, with a similar mechanism. Trigger presses were weighed on a Wheeler Engineering Professional digital trigger: The Glock 48 averaged a 5-pound, 1.3-ounce pull; the average Glock 43X is 5 pounds, 2.8 ounces.

The Dark Star Gear Hitchhiker AIWB holster for the original Glock 43 also fits the G48. AIWB holders are often made longer than the guns they are made from to improve concealment. The 10-shot Slimlines disappear under light cover clothing.

I found guns to produce 2- to 3-inch groups from 25 yards while using a bench rest, applying a "best three out of five" group to measure to put from my human errors. I shoot ball and hollow point ammo from several manufacturers. I also met my friend and colleague - legendary attorney "Marshal" Chuck Haggard - at the range. He put a few boxes of ammunition in the guns and felt them too.

I shot a smaller-sized USPSA steel silhouette (about 14 inches high and 11 inches wide, without the 4-by-4-inch head box) from 50 yards. I loaded four rounds of Federal 115-grain FMJ ammo into the Glock 43X and placed three of the four in the steel plate body.

That first round that slipped off the left side of the plate did that because I pulled the trigger. Think about that: A barrel of less than 3½ inches, in a gun weighing less than 17 ounces empty, with a trigger press of just over 5 pounds—and I made shots at 50 yards.

Chuck pulled out his personal gun, a G43 that he often carries. Because of this, it is worn closely and becomes thin, sweaty and dirty. As a Glock gunsmith, he only takes the gun down to detail a few times a year for cleaning and inspection, and it still works. His holster is the Hitchhiker, an AIWB from Dark Star Gear (DSG). He let me borrow the rig for a test shoot with the guns. Apparently, the DSG holster is long enough that it looks like it was made specifically for the Glock 48, which is a useful configuration.

His gun is equipped with a Tau Development Group Striker Control Device (SCD), which is a replacement for the factory striker cover plate. Easily installed, it prevents the striker from being carried to the rear when you place your thumb behind the slide. This eliminates the worry of sticking again. If someone misses the trigger, you can feel pressure from the SCD. Stop and reverse course, but be aware that the striker will not return to the firing position until you relieve pressure on the SCD.

The shooting experience between the G43X and the new G 48 is almost identical. Shown here shooting the Glock 48, the author could not tell the difference (by feel) between the two new Slimline guns.

Chuck installed it, and tested both samples dry and live fire. Striker Control Tool for G43 works on new guns. I shot several handling drills with each gun to see how they would fit in a suitable type of situation, and I can confidently report that both are up to the task with ease.

By firing more or less common exercises from several law enforcement certification courses, the results are easy within
